Congratulations to band member Chris McKenna on achieving a Distinction in his recent grade 7 cornet exam, with 134 points. Also, well done to Callum Ferrier in coming first place with a distinction in his performance and Pontefract Music Festival recently.

It is with regret that after careful consideration, we have decided to withdraw from the Hi Societies concerts this year. We have however, been asked to perform at Queen Street Methodist Chapel in Scarborough once again. We will be there on Saturday 12th July at 7:15pm, though will have the afternoon in Scarborough before the concert. The bus will leave the school at 10am. This will be our final meeting before the summer holidays. More details will follow in the next few weeks.

Congratulations to band member Callum Ferrier who achieved a Merit in his recent grade 2 clarinet exam, with 121 points.

Concert dates for 2008 have now been added to our events page. These include a trip to Scarborough, as well as our Annual Presentation and Christmas concerts at the Civic Centre. We have two St Mary's Church concerts this year - one a return visit to St Mary's in Kippax in May, and in October, a new venue for us, St Mary's in Swillington. Please write them in your diary, or why not download and display a poster!

CYM are currently looking for someone to come along and initially help our Choir Director. Hopefully this would eventually lead to taking over the directorship of the choir. This is a voluntary position and rehearsals are held on Friday evenings 7pm-9pm (term time only). This would be a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys choral work with a membership of young people aged between 8 and 25 years. More congratulations are due for our members - for different reasons. First of all, congratulations to choir member Suzanne Wadsworth and her husband Adrian on the birth of their first son Peter Albert on 16th December. Thanks to Suzanne for the picture below (click to enlarge). Also, congratulations to band member Zoe Utley on passing her Grade 7 Flute!

Congratulations to our drummer Oliver Johnson who achieved a Merit in his recent Grade 8 exam. Oliver was only three marks from a distinction - a brilliant achievement made even more significant by the fact that he only started playing drums three years ago!

A busy year came to an end for CYM last week, with another very successful Christmas Cabaret concert at the Civic Centre. Thanks to all those who attended to make it yet another Christmas sell-out!
